Ik ben nieuw: wat is XMRV en hoe testen?

Hallo allemaal.
Ik ben er sinds dit weekend achter dat ik al zo'n 6 jaar CVS/ME heb. Ik zit dus in een enorme emotionele rollercoaster. Wellicht is de vraag al 80 keer gesteld, maar ik ben zo enorm moe nu van al het lezen dat ik hem toch maar stel. Wat is xrmv en hoe kan ik het testen?

Om je vraag te beantwoorden. XMRV is een retrovirus lijkend op HIV.
Je kan het laten testen via een ME/CVS arts of particulier via Redlabs:

Sonja, om je vraag over XMRV te beantwoorden verwijs ik je even de site van Esther, die schrijft een mooi blog (waarvoor je ook een link op de homepage vindt) en die heeft ook duidelijk omschreven wat XMRV is, ook met alle relevante publicaties erbij.

Er staat nog steeds niet vast dat XMRV per se samenhangt met ME toch(en dus nog niet erg zinvol om te testen)? Of heb ik het laatste nieuws gemist?

En dit blog houdt alle ontwikkelingen rond XMRV goed bij. Ik kijk er zelf heel vaak even naar om weer up to date te zijn.

In de laatste post op deze site lijkt het erop dat we (laten we het hopen) binnenkort toch weer meer (en goed nieuws dit keer) zullen horen over XMRV.

XMRV has taken some hits lately but there have been some hopeful hints as well and Riley on the PR Forums put a list of them together. He said “they say that the darkest hour is before the dawn, and I believe we are in that darkest hour” and here is why he believes XMRV will work out.
1. Dr Mikovits’ comments at Santa Rosa that she believes “the politics will go away shortly.”
2. Another person on the forum reported a few weeks ago that Dr. Demerleir told him that there is something coming out in a couple of months that will end the contamination debate, but that he could not provide details because of a non disclosure agreement.
3. The report from XMRVGA on Dr. Mikovits’ recent talk in Canada. They said that some new “jaw dropping” directions were announced and that the research is progressing nicely. They too said they could not release details at this time.
4. Some comments that Dr. Lo and Dr. Alter made during the NIH videocast abou their research, which make it seem that contamination is highly unlikely. Also , the general confidence that they display in their results.
