More talk of XMRV, chronic fatigue
Does XMRV cause chronic fatigue syndrome? That’s been the question on many scientists’ minds since a 2009 paper in Science found the virus to be much more common in CFS patients than controls. Some other research says XMRV could be a culprit in cancer, although the findings are mixed. Now, a Dutch press release is reporting that a top NIH researcher presented data at a workshop that support the link to CFS. That researcher is Harvey Alter, who helped discover the Hepatitis C virus. The author of the Science paper told the Wall Street Journal Health Blog she celebrated the findings; the NIH confirmed the presentation was authentic but would not comment further.
