Ampligen NOG niet goedgekeurd door FDA

Het Amerikaanse Food and Drug Administration houdt opnieuw Ampligen tegen om aan CVS/ME-patienten voor te schrijven. Nog steeds vertraging dus, al wordt met het middel al ruim 30 jaar geexperimenteerd... Lees hier en hier het laatste nieuws.

CVS/ME zal het voorlopig moeten doen zonder de behandeling met Ampligen, want deze wordt nog steeds niet goedgekeurd door de FDA, volgens Hemispherx Biopharma Inc. (lees daarover meer hier).

Hemispherx Biopharma, Inc. (NYSE Amex:HEB) announced today grant awards totaling $488,958 from the U.S. Department of Treasury in support of its Ampligen® and Alferon® development programs. These awards were approved by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), in conjunction with the Department of Heath and Human Services (DHHS), under the Qualifying Therapeutic Discovery Project Program, established under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 for projects that showed significant potential to produce new and cost-saving therapies, support jobs and increase U.S. competitiveness. The amounts granted for these two Hemispherx projects were for the maximum per-project amount set by the IRS based on the limited amount of funds allocated for the program.

The Hemispherx Alferon® program grant application was based on the potential to show Alferon N Injection®, an FDA-approved treatment for refractory HPV, and Alferon® LDO (low dose oral), an experimental formulation, to be an efficacious and inexpensive preventative or treatment for seasonal and pandemic flu.

The Hemispherx Ampligen® grant application was based on the continuing development of Ampligen® (an experimental therapeutic with broad spectrum antiviral properties) in clinical programs in Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, (CFS) and as an adjuvant for seasonal / pandemic influenza vaccines and cancer immunotherapy.

Ik zou er nog wat meer kopen
Ik loop al een jaar te zeuren bij mijn apotheker om me op de hoogte te houden van alle ontwikkelingen rond Ampligen.
Ik ben enkel nieuwsgierig naar de mogelijkheid 1. Ampligen en daarna 2. De geschikte antiretrovirale middelen om de genadeslag aan het xmrv virus toe te dienen. Ik weet uiteraard niet of die twee samengaan.

Ampligen Trial
Patients interested in participating in an open-label trial for the experimental ME/CFS drug Ampligen should contact Ali Allen or Kristin Pierce at Dr. Lucinda Bateman's office in Salt Lake City, Utah, for more information. Depending in part upon patient response, Bateman may elect to conduct a trial in 2011. With an open-label trial, all patients receive the investigative drug.

The drug cost will be approximately $6,700 for the first six months, which will include extensive testing to determine eligibility, and $7,200 for each additional six-month period. In addition, there will be procedure expenses (infusion costs, bloodwork, X rays, EKGs and other testing) of approximately $6,900 every six months, plus administrative costs of approximately $1,500 every six months. For six months, expect to shell out more than $15,000 to participate in the study, plus housing costs if you're not from the area.


To qualify for the study, patients must be able to visit the clinic up to six times during the first 10 weeks for baseline testing before receiving the intravenous drug Ampligen. Once you begin the drug, you must reside in the Salt Lake City area and visit the clinic at least twice each week, for one- to two-hour visits, for at least six months.
