Dear Foggy Friends, I am a Dutch woman living in the UK for a couple of years now, but still following the ME/CFS news in The Netherlands/Holland. I would like to ask your support for a campaign to make clear to the Dutch people what ME/CFS really is. I will explain and translate everything, so you can make an honest choice to support the campaign or not.
First in Holland ME/CFS isn't recognized by the government as an illness, so people with this illness don't receive any disability allowance; in contrary with most other countries in Europe. The overall view in Holland is, is that ME/CFS is a physchological illness. (Of course there are exceptions).
In Holland is an independent organisation called SIRE, who's goal is to make information campagnes about social subjects that are important but not much heard about. They try to inform the Dutch people and government, so that people are discussing those subjects. They celebrate their 40th birthday this year and because of that have written out a competition: "you may decide" (u mag het zeggen). Dutch people can entry subjects and can vote on those subjects. They will make a information campaign about the winning subject.
As you guessed, one of the subjects entried by a Dutch woman, Marjolein, is about CFS/ME. Her entrance says the following: "ME/CFS: unknown, so denied. My sister lays in bed for more than 1,5 years now as a result of ME/CFS = so it's more than being tired. It is believed that there are more people with ME/CFS than with MS. But the Dutch government and science still deny ME/CFS. Please give us your support!"
The Dutch ME/CFS communities already are voting on this subject, but with the English ME/CFS community, the chance of winning is greater. If you support this entry ME/CFS will be an more accepted and recognized illness in Holland. So PLEASE, support the entry.
If you want to support it, please do the following (it seems a lot, but I wrote everything down to make everything crystal clear):
1. go to: www.umaghetzeggen.nl
2. you get a website with a red box that explains the competition in short.
3. press on the topcorner on the white x to close he box
4. down at the bottom you see some Dutch words including: "toon lijst", which means show list. This is the list of the entries.
5. The entry of Marjolein is: "ME/CVS: onbekend, dus ontkend!"
6. Press on the sentence of that entry.
7. You see a black screen now with a lot of dutch words. The left side reads the entry I wrote above, the right side is the supporting part!!!
8. It says from top to down: "Support this entry. You want to support this entry. Fill in your name and emailadress." naam = name. e-mailadres = emailadress
9. Please, put your name and emailadress in the boxes and tick the box that says: "Ja, ik ga akkoord met de voorwaarden en ontvang e-mail van SIRE over deze actie" = Yes, I agree with the terms and conditions and receive email rearding this competition. I read the terms and condition and your email adress won't be given or sold to another organisation etc.
10. Finally press the button that says "steun dit onderwerp" = Support this entry.
11. Beneath that there is some text saying you can promote this entry by putting it on your own website, but I reckon that you won't be doing that, because everything is in Dutch.
12. If you press it, you'll see a black box that says: "Bedankt voor je steun. You will now receive an email with a link. Press this link to confirm your support. The rest states you can send your friends this entry for more support, but I reckon (again) because this is in Dutch you won't do it.
13. In your email box you'll find a email from "noreply@umaghetzeggen.nl" with the subject "Bevestig nog even je steun op SIRE.nl" = confirm your support on SIRE.nl
14. The email states: "Dear..... Confirm your vote on "ME/CVS: onbekend dus ontkend!" by pressing the following link. With kind regards, SIRE.
15. Press the link. The website of umaghetzeggen.nl will pop up and there appears a black box stating: "Your vote on "ME/CVS: onbekend dus ontkend!" has been confirmed". And again the possibility to send this entry to friends and family.
That's it then. I hope you will support this entry. First because its very important the Dutch people change their mind about ME/CFS. Second, it costs me a lot of energy to type this, so if one person votes because of this, I will be a very happy girl . For any questions, you can send me a message. THANX
