Infection with Bacteria as The Cause of Scleroderma
by Alan Cantwell, Jr., M.D. © 2000
In the past decade many chronic diseases once believed to be non-infectious are now thought to be caused by viruses, bacteria, or by tiny mycoplasma-like organisms which have characteristics of both bacteria and viruses. Even certain forms of cancer are now considered infectious

The Chronic Lyme Disease Epidemic
September 8, 2014 by Kyle Jenkins
The thought of twisting a cork and popping open a bottle of wine might occur if one were tiny enough to swim alongside an army of spirochete soldiers through the alleys of the human bloodstream. Unlike most bacteria, the Lyme Disease spirochete possesses the shape of a corkscrew, similar to that of a wine opener, making it capable of drilling into any system of the human body. Capitalizing on its ability to mask itself as other illnesses and to conceal its existence from modern medicine’s conventional detection methods, Lyme Disease is the perfect adversary to the human race, a cloak and dagger crafter of chaos. It’s waiting for you, your friends and your family…only a few feet from your doorstep.

Distinguishing Lyme arthritis from septic arthritis in children
A common late-stage manifestation of the disease is Lyme arthritis, which can mimic bacterial septic arthritis, especially in children.
Our retrospective review of 400 children (average age: 8 years) who had a joint aspirated either in the emergency department (ED) or hospital between 1992 and 2009 found the knee was the number one joint involved. Of the children who had joint effusion in the knee, 45 percent had Lyme arthritis and 10 percent had septic arthritis. The hip is the second most common joint for Lyme arthritis, and it is also common in septic arthritis.

ILADS is proud to announce new Guidelines for the treatment of Lyme Disease. These Guidelines broaden the scope of treatment and re-treatment and will greatly enhance the care of patients suffering from Lyme and persistent Lyme. The new Guidelines call for therapies to be guided by clinical response rather than a predetermined response and view laboratory testing as a contribution to the physicians’ judgment. Please read the full text below. We congratulate the authors of this work and all in the Lyme community who have made this momentous achievement possible. - See more at: http://www.ilads.org/#sthash.lrIxFX2O.dpuf

TOUCHED BY LYME: Telling the stories of people with Lyme disease
10th September 2014
“The Lyme Altar: A People’s History of Symptoms, Sacrifice and Hope,” a new documentary, focuses on Lyme patients and the doctors who treat them.
In the beginning of this film, we see what appears to be a sacred shrine. Upon closer examination, we find it is decorated with dozens of containers holding medications and supplements. Meanwhile, in the opening credits, the title The Lyme Altar (with an “ar”) transforms into The Lyme Alter (with an “er”).

Stroke is one of the least common neurological complication of Borrelia Burgdorferi infection (Lyme disease), and poorly documented. We report a case with a temporal relationship between acute neurological manifestations of vertebrobasilar ischemia demonstrated by MRI and B. burgdorferi infection.
