Een beetje vreemd allemaal...op de website van ESME staat dat de editie in Oslo "op eigen initiatief van prof. DML wordt gehouden en dat hij daar uitdrukkelijk niet als ESME-lid zal spreken"...
Is er iets op til of zie ik spoken (zou niet de eerste keer zijn hoor )?
Tot op vandaag nergens concrete info vernomen.
Dus gaan we ervan uit dat de onbevestigde bron voor Brussel allicht niet plaatsvindt...of we zouden ineens snel iets moeten horen van wanneer en waar precies...
Als arts en wetenschapper kun je dingen doen op eigen basis of op groepsbasis.
Soms moet je naar buiten toe de scheiding maken. Van wat is uit naam van die groep en wat is uit naam van die arts en wetenschapper.
Dat heeft verder nergens mee te maken.
Klimas deed ook dingen uit eigen naam ooit en uit CFIDS naam.

Dr. Peterson was reportedly at the Invest in ME conference but didn't speak but did hold a question and answer session in a conference in Madrid (These jetsetting researchers ) Thanks to the wonders of technology a video is already available and more are to come apparently. A person stated that he knew of some HIV patients with XMRV who were not improving on antiretrovirals (?) which made him think that XMRV was a passenger virus. Apparently Dr. Peterson has HIV patients with XMRV as well and he asked him about them. Dr. Peterson acknowledged that XMRV could, of course, be a passenger virus - he said that's an area they need to do more work on - but also that that scenario simply could imply that the patient is not getting the right anti-XMRV drugs.
On a question regarding the negative Huber study Dr. Peterson noted that Dr. Huber used a probe for an enzyme XMRV produces called XMRV integrase and failed to find it. Dr. Peterson said the question was how accurate was the probe (key question) and what kinds of patients she tested (not a key question). Dr. Huber measured somewhere around 200 patients from Dr. Levine - a well known CFS physician in New York and - and Dr. Taylor, who is studying adolescent ME/CFS patients plus some samples from the HVV6 Fdtn. If this is a cohort problem then it's hard to see how XMRV's going to make a big difference in the ME/CFS Community; these are pretty solid ME/CFS patients. It seems much more likely given the WPI's continuing findings of high rates of XMRV prevalence that the differences lie in the methodology. He brought up the very interesting point, though, that Dr. Huber was able to find XMRV in a sample they provided her but not in any of her patients. That could suggest a she had a different set of patients - but if XMRV is only found in WPI samples then one can see why she would begin to speculate about contamination - as she did at the Conference.
The second lecture was from Dr. Kenny De Meirleir, very interesting, focused on the fact that the most important thing now is to have a simple and good XMRV Test for all the researchers. He assured that they already have the test and it works, and it is a matter of days that they will make it available, 3 to 4 weeks probably.
